» National Consultation on India’s Free Trade Agreements

On August 31 and September 1st, the Forum on FTAs held a National Consultation on India’s FTAs at the Indian Social Institute, New Delhi (Agenda of the Consultation). This consultation brought together representatives of trade unions, social movements, peoples’ collectives, academic institutions, non-government organisations, civil society organisations and concerned individuals to discuss the implications of Government of India’s bilateral and regional FTAs being negotiated with both developed and developing countries. » WSF and People’s Alternatives: Sharing the Experiences of Belem

Some Indian Activists participated in the 9th World Social Forum held in Belem, Brazil from January 27 to February 1, 2009. The focus of this year’s WSF was on indigenous peoples’ movements. Impelled further by the global economic crisis, WSF’s ‘open space’ became an even more intense site to share and work towards strengthening alternatives. Moving beyond a critique of global capitalism, the mood in Belem was a deeper affirmation of peoples’ movements for radical structural change. Read Details...
