» Europe and India FTAs
On April 28 and 29, European Civil Society groups met in Berlin in order to share knowledge and experiences in their respective regions regarding the EU-India FTA and EFTA-India FTA, and also to look at the possibilities for developing common lobbying and campaigning activities. Participants at the workshop drafted a Call on European Governments for an immediate halt to the current FTA negotiations between the European Union (EU) and India; and between the European Free Trade Association (EFTA) and India. The call denounces the EU Global Europe strategy and its competitiveness driven agenda that places intrusive FTAs at its core, also being pursued by the EFTA. The Call believes this regime of FTAs as an expression of a neo-colonial agenda. It stresses that the current multiple crises (food, financial, economic, climate and social) provide evidence that the neo-liberal economic policies have failed to promote human well-being for all (Call on European Governments).
