Digest No: 04; Dated: March 10, 2009
STATEMENTS AND OFFICIAL DOCUMENTS

Welcoming the Czech Presidency to the EU
Since January, the half yearly presidency of the EU was assumed by the Czech Republic. In a previous Digest (FTA Watch – India No. 2, February 14), we had published two articles about the trade policy priorities of the Czech Trade Ministry. An impassioned presentation by the Czech minister for industry, Martin Riman to INTA affirmed a commitment to free trade. Earlier, during a conference on Trade Liberalisation, Czech Trade Deputy Minister, Martin Tlapa, defended the pro-corporate Global Europe strategy. In this overall context, the Seattle to Brussels Network (StoB) published a statement asking for a comprehensive review of this trade agenda calling for a trade and investment strategy that puts people and environment first (Stop the EU’s Corporate Trade Agenda).
